THE RIGHT TO VOTE AND THE LAW RELATING TO ELECTION PETITIONS

The volume comprises the transcript and presentations made at a Seminar on the Right to Vote and the Law Relating to Election Petitions organized by CPA on 26th February 2000. Some of the issues covered in the publication range from the recourse to public interest litigation to further democratic governance, the law pertaining to election petitions and its application as well as the bad practices and proceedures that are followed on which the law is silent. This publication also deals with the need for law reform in Sri Lanka, culled from the experiences of elections over the last decade.

Centre for Policy Alternatives

The Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA) was formed in 1996 in the firm belief that there is an urgent need to strengthen institution- and capacity-building for good governance and conflict transformation in Sri Lanka and that non-partisan civil society groups have an important and constructive contribution to make to this process. Focusing primarily on issues of governance and conflict resolution, CPA is committed to programmes of research and advocacy through which public policy is critiqued, alternatives identified and disseminated.
