THE
RIGHT TO VOTE AND THE LAW RELATING TO ELECTION PETITIONS
The
volume comprises the transcript and presentations made
at a Seminar on the Right to Vote and the Law Relating
to Election Petitions organized by CPA on 26th February
2000. Some of the issues covered in the publication range
from the recourse to public interest litigation to further
democratic governance, the law pertaining to election
petitions and its application as well as the bad practices
and proceedures that are followed on which the law is
silent. This publication also deals with the need for
law reform in Sri Lanka, culled from the experiences
of elections over the last decade.

ROLE OF THE OMBUDSMAN
“Role of the Ombudsman” highlights the importance of the office of the Ombudsman
in achieving transparency, accountability and good governance. It draws attention
to the weaknesses which plagues this office and makes recommendations for strengthening
it. It includes a detailed study of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration
(Ombudsman), a critical analysis of the Role of the Ombudsman in Sri Lanka with
some comparisons with South Africa and Reflections on the Role of the Ombudsman
in Sweden. The Role of the Ombudsman is the result of a seminar conducted by
the Centre for Policy Alternatives.
