Activities in 2007
Inter Community Student Exchange Programme 2006 OTI	19-21th January 2007
In the last of a series of Inter Community Student Camps, under the above titled programme, Students of Anuradhapura Vipulananda Hindu College and Lunugala Tamil Maha Vidyalaya visited Monaragala Madulla MV on 19-21th January, in a 3 day event organised by CPA's Outreach Unit . Approximately 250 Students and 30 teachers participated. The Chief Guest was Mr Manel Ratnayeke ,Chairman, Uva Provincial Council. Religious Leaders of all 4 religions oversaw the Programme. The opening ceremony was on the 19th at 6 pm and the camp featured a research study on living conditions and traditions of people living in the agricultural areas and border villages, Shramadana events, Physical Training & Sports events and a cultural programme of colourful traditional Tamil and Sinhala drama and dance. All the Inter School Exchange Camps under this series are featured in a commemorative publication titled "ARUNODAYA"(Sinhala)/ "ARUNODAYAM" (Tamil) which is available from Outreach Unit,CPA
Awareness Raising Programme for Local Govt Representatives and Civil Society Leaders(ARLG)	26th- 27th May 2007
Under above titled programme, CPA's Outreach Unit organized a Two day Workshop on Awareness Raising for LG Representatives and Officials from Medirigiriya PS and Gampola UC, from the 26th- 27th May 2007 at Kanadalama Hotel , Dambulla. Apart from resource people and organizers a total of 72 LG representatives took part, including ten female attendees. Resource persons included : Dhamma Dissanayeke , Senior Lecturer Dept of Political Science & Public Policy, University of Colombo , attorney at law S.G.Punchihewa, Dr V Ameerdeen , Senior Lecturer, Political Science ,University of Peradeniya, and Upul Abeyrathne, Senior Lecturer, Political Science , University of Ruhuna. The second day of the Workshop was given to group work sessions including a timely and most revealing exercise in SWOT analysis of the relevant Local Authority Bodies, in which a number of interesting points were brought to light. Representatives of both LAs for example agreed to organising a public gallery allowing interested citizens to view monthly meetings. Smoother co operation between Divisional Secretariats and Local Government bodies was also effectively facilitated. A final Strategic plan was drawn up for ten selected priorities which were to be handled within the next three months and how to achieve these objectives with designated responsible officials named.
